Working remotely is the one good thing that has come from the pandemic. It’s evident that COVID-19 has changed  lives, and that certainly includes the way that most of us will be working.

We always knew that it was possible to connect and sell online but this has opened up a whole new world for small business owners & consumers. New ways have grown from necessity. Let's explore what's new in the way of marketing offline for brick and mortar businesses as well as exciting online possibilities. 

When we come out of this period,  the new normal I suspect will be  that remote work will be the growing trend. That and companies that support this game changing trend.

Shopify Post

One of which is Shopify.  A multinational  e-commerce firm  who is headquartered in Ottawa Canada,  (where I was born and raised.) Who is seeing a booming demand as more companies move to sell online.  The image  above this one is from my free Shopify site that I have started.

Shopify's CEO Tobi Lutke says the company is doing everything it can to help businesses start selling online to stay afloat.

"The spread of COVID-19 is going to be a tough time for all entrepreneurs," he said in a statement. "We are working as fast as we can to support our merchants by re-tooling our products to help them adapt to this new reality."

Facebook Shops will automatically become available  in the coming weeks and you will be directly notified. Facebook Shops can be created on Instagram, with a version for Facebook coming soon.

Shopify is a subscription software service that offers you  the opportunity to create a website and use their shopping cart solution to sell, ship, and manage your products shopping system. In fact they have partnered with Facebook and Instagram to do just that.

  1. Yes, it’s strange how adverse circumstances yield opportunities if you’re willing to look for them. There’s definitely opportunity for remote work since we’ve been forced into doing it. And that has yielded more opportunities to develop online businesses. Lots of great info here on tools to use.

      Life is strange these days, that is true. The pandemic has exposed many things that we really were not aware of. One would be working remotely. Developing businesses in a different way.     1. Hi Barb,
      One of our clients offline used to travel all around the world going to meetings. I asked him why he didn’t use conference calls instead? It was just the way that business was done. He is now utilizing online meetings and he told me he really didn’t know why they never did it before. All the people who had to work from home now see the benefit of working remotely. Times change and we must change with them.

    It’s great to hear that Shopify is doing all it can to help store owners in these difficult times. If / when the store owners emerge with strong businesses I’m sure they will stay as loyal store owners, so it’s good commercial sense for both parties.

    I’ve never tried Shopify personally but I have read that others have had good success with it.

    1. Hi Joy, The Canadian based company reports in U.S. dollars and says it took in $470 million in revenue in the first three months of 2020. That’s up from $320 million in the same period a year ago. Now with the pandemic and people looking for work from the home income it will be even higher. Thanks for your comments.

      Well, thank you for that great comment!
      I actually taught myself about Shopify by writing this blog post, so I wanted to make it as simple as possible.
      Since that time Shopify has been involved with Walmart as well as Google & Apple to create the Ap to work with identifying someone digitally on your phone that has COVID-19. Shopify is huge in Canada.
